Hi everyone🤘,
Optimists live ~15% longer than pessimists (via MIT). But! Especially in election season, negativity dominates.
So we all need it: a dose of true optimism, thanks to startups enthusiastically building “the impossible.”
Drum roll pls… 🥁

True Optimism: Political Platitudes vs. Entrepreneurial Exuberance
A politician’s version of optimism these days is some variation of “America is not in decline.” Hardly declarative. Lukewarm at best.
Meanwhile, consider an entrepreneur’s optimism. There are literally founders doing these things:
“Let’s use tech to summon rainfall on demand!”
“Let’s deliver abundant energy to the far corners of our solar system!”
“Let’s uncover the secrets hiding beneath Earth’s surface!”
Petty pessimists could never chase visions like these. Here are those companies:
🌧️ Rainmaker Tech: “Let’s Control Weather”
How’s this for optimism: let’s build a technology to literally “make it rain.” (Rainmaker)
What it does: Rainmaker uses advanced drone technology and numerical weather modeling to enhance cloud seeding operations, making rain on demand a viable solution.
What it means: It could provide scalable, cost-effective solutions for water scarcity, potentially transforming agriculture and municipal water supplies.
The Optimist: Augustus Doricko
🚀 Antares: “Energy, Everywhere!”
Let’s build nuclear energy capabilities to power energy anywhere in the universe (Antares)
What it does: Antares develops rapidly deployable microreactors for resilient energy infrastructure, designed for both terrestrial and space applications.
What it means: These microreactors offer a reliable and robust energy source, crucial for remote and critical infrastructure, and enable sustainable space exploration.
The Optimist: Jordan Bramble; Julia Dewahl
🔍 KoBold Metals: “Detect Earth’s Secrets!”
Let’s uncover the secrets hiding under Earth’s surface! (Kobold Metals)
What it does: KoBold Metals uses AI and comprehensive geoscience data to discover new mineral deposits necessary for clean energy technologies.
What it means: By turning mineral exploration into a precise science, KoBold Metals can help meet the growing demand for critical minerals, essential for combating climate change and advancing technology.
Here’s an article on their discovery of a large copper deposit.
The Optimist: Kurt House
What’s next! Looking (Optimistically!) Forward
I believe “need” of innovation will soon overcome the “fear” of failure. These startups exemplify how optimism and vision can lead to groundbreaking advancements that shape our future. So, let's celebrate these optimists.
